However the transition between the end of "Damned Don't Cry" and "The Horseman" is a rather clumsy, abrupt, beat-edit, which does not work atall well/5().

The album's first release on the compact disc format was in Germany in It was re-issued on CD in the United States in by One Way Records, complete with two bonus tracks (though they are tracks from the –81 era and not that of The Anvil). The Anvil was re-issued in the UK on CD by Cherry Red Records on 17 March , containing six bonus tracks and detailed liner notes.

By the time that VISAGE’s second album ‘The Anvil’ came out in Spring , things were very different for the cast who had produced the eponymous debut started in , and which in early spawned the massive European hit ‘Fade To Grey’. In many respects, it was unsurprising that ‘The Anvil’ appeared to lack the focus of its predecessor, but it was still a very good record.
